Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Principal Process Development Engineer in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Lead pilot plant trials, develop scalable chemical processes from concept to commercialization, and optimize existing manufacturing for efficiency and cost reduction. Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and production teams to ensure seamless technology transfer.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field is required.
• 10+ years of experience in process development and scale-up in chemical/pharmaceutical/advanced materials industries.
• Proven ability to bring new chemical processes to commercial scale.
• Experience with GMP/regulatory environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead pilot plant trials and process validation studies.
• Develop robust and scalable chemical processes from concept to commercialization.
• Optimize manufacturing processes for efficiency, cost reduction, and sustainability.
• Conduct process modeling, simulation, and data analysis to identify improvements.
• Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and manufacturing for technology transfer.
• Author technical documentation including process descriptions, batch records, and validation protocols.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for operations.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians in process development.
• Stay current with emerging process technologies and advances.
• Manage external collaborations and vendor relationships as needed.
