Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Senior Process Chemist to join its manufacturing and research division in Vereeniging, South Africa. The role focuses on optimizing existing chemical processes and developing scalable, cost-effective manufacturing methods for the product portfolio.

You will lead process development, scale-up from lab to pilot to full production, perform PHAs, and develop analytical methods for in-process control and final release, while ensuring safety and operational

Qualifications

• M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with emphasis on process chemistry.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process development and scale-up in a chemical manufacturing environment.
• Proven expertise in optimizing reaction conditions, isolation techniques, and purification methods.
• Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, kinetics, and mass transfer.
• Experience with process safety management (PSM) and hazard analysis.

Responsibilities

• Optimize existing chemical processes to improve yield, purity, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop and scale up new synthetic routes and chemical processes from laboratory to pilot plant and full production scale.
• Conduct thorough process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement safety protocols to ensure safe operations.
• Develop and validate analytical methods for in-process control and final product release.
• Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with engineers, production staff, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless process transfer and continuous improvement.
