Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Process Chemist to join our client’s innovative R&D team in Mossel Bay. This hybrid role focuses on developing and optimizing chemical synthesis routes for new and existing products, blending laboratory work with remote data analysis and reporting.

You will lead projects in organic synthesis and scale-up, perform detailed characterization (NMR, HPLC, GC-MS), and drive efficiency and sustainability across manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5-8 years of experience in process chemistry, synthesis, and scale-up in pharma or fine chemicals.
• Expertise in organic synthesis techniques and reaction mechanisms.
• Proficiency with analytical instrumentation and data interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize synthetic routes for novel chemical compounds, focusing on yield, purity, and cost-effectiveness.
• Perform detailed characterization of intermediates and final products using NMR, HPLC, GC-MS.
• Scale-up laboratory procedures to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing levels.
• Troubleshoot and resolve chemical process issues encountered during production.
• Conduct process safety assessments and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
• Document research findings, process parameters, and analytical data meticulously.
