Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Automotive Mechanical Engineer to join our client in Klerksdorp. The role focuses on powertrain design, development, testing, and optimization of engines, transmissions, and driveline components for next-generation vehicles.

You will work in a hybrid setup, collaborating with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams, and contribute to performance, efficiency, and emission improvements. A strong background in CAD and simulation is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in automotive powertrain design and development.
• Deep knowledge of internal combustion engines, transmissions and driveline systems.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or CATIA and ANSYS or MATLAB/Simulink.
• Strong analytical, problem solving and data analysis skills.
• Experience with data acquisition for powertrain testing.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop powertrain components and systems to meet performance, durability and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct performance analysis, simulation and testing of engines, transmissions and drivelines.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, software and manufacturing specialists.
• Create and interpret CAD models, drawings and specifications using industry-standard software.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues related to powertrain operation and performance.
• Manage project timelines, budgets and resources for assigned tasks.
• Stay current with advancements in powertrain technology including hybridization and electrification trends.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations communicating findings and recommendations.
• Ensure compliance with automotive industry standards and regulations.
