About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the renewable energy infrastructure sector, is seeking an accomplished Senior Power Systems Engineer to join their dedicated team in Randburg, Gauteng. This critical role focuses on the technical aspects of integrating renewable energy projects, such as solar and wind farms, into the national grid. You will be responsible for performing complex power system studies, ensuring grid code compliance, and providing expert technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle, from early-stage development through to commissioning. This is an on-site position requiring collaboration with engineering teams, project managers, and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of power system dynamics, protection, and control, with a specific emphasis on renewable energy integration challenges. Your expertise will be vital in supporting the successful delivery of clean energy projects and ensuring grid stability. We are looking for a proactive problem-solver with excellent analytical and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed power system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, stability, and protection coordination analyses for renewable energy projects.
• Ensure all designs and interconnection applications comply with relevant grid codes and utility requirements.
• Develop technical specifications for grid connection equipment and systems.
• Provide technical support and expertise during the design, construction, and commissioning phases of projects.
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams, EPC contractors, and utility engineers.
• Review and approve technical documentation and designs submitted by third parties.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to grid integration and power system performance.
• Stay updated on power system technologies, grid integration best practices, and regulatory changes.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in power system analysis and design, preferably within the renewable energy sector.
• Proficiency in power system simulation software such as PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD, or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of grid codes, interconnection standards, and power system protection principles.
• Experience with integrating utility-scale solar PV and wind power plants is highly desirable.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively in a team environment.
