Placements24 seeks a Senior Power Systems Engineer to join our client’s fully remote team. The role allows you to work from a home office anywhere in South Africa, with presence in Klerksdorp, North West for coordination.

You will design, analyze, and optimize complex power systems for critical infrastructure projects, mentoring junior engineers and contributing to strategic development of the power systems division.

Qualifications

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in power systems engineering.
• Demonstrated expertise in power system analysis software and tools.
• Strong knowledge of power system protection, stability, and control principles.
• Experience with grid codes and utility interconnection requirements in various regions.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proven ability to mentor junior engineers; Pr Eng registration is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and analysis of high-voltage power systems including transmission and distribution networks.
• Perform detailed power flow, short-circuit, stability, and protection coordination studies using specialized software (PSS/E, ETAP).
• Develop and review technical specifications for power system equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and protective relays.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on grid connection and integration studies.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Contribute to long-term power system planning and investment strategies.
