Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems to join their energy division. The role is remote but supports projects in and around Rustenburg, North West, SA, focusing on design, analysis, and implementation of robust power infrastructure to ensure reliability and safety.

You will lead technical work on power grids, substations, protection schemes, and power quality, mentoring a team of engineers and collaborating with clients to deliver

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus.
• 8+ years in electrical power systems engineering including design, analysis and operations.
• Knowledge of power system protection, stability and control.
• Experience with ETAP, PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory or equivalent.
• SCADA experience is a plus; familiarity with SA codes and utility standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills; able to work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop specifications for electrical power systems including substations and networks.
• Perform load flow, short circuit, and stability studies using industry software.
• Develop protection schemes and coordination studies for power systems.
• Conduct power quality analysis and propose improvements.
• Oversee installation, commissioning, and testing of equipment.

• Provide technical guidance to project teams and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical power systems engineering, covering design, analysis, and operations.
• In-depth knowledge of power system protection, stability, and control systems.
• Proficiency in power system analysis software such as ETAP, PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or equivalent.
• Experience with SCADA systems and distribution automation is a plus.
• Understanding of South African electrical codes and utility standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively in a remote setting.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is highly advantageous.
