Job summary

Network Finance is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to lead the design, analysis and commissioning of high-voltage power systems on major mining projects. You will deliver advanced studies, HV network design and mentor junior engineers.

The role involves coordinating multidisciplinary teams, reviewing vendor documentation, and ensuring compliance with SANS, IEC and IEEE standards from concept to commissioning.

Qualifications

• BEng or BSc in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical power systems engineering.
• Experience in mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial projects.
• Knowledge of HV and MV networks, substations, switchgear and protection systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and analysis of HV and MV power systems for mining facilities.
• Perform power system studies: Load Flow Analysis, Short Circuit Studies, Protection Coordination.
• Develop substation and distribution designs and review protection philosophies.
• Interface with mining clients, EPCM teams and equipment suppliers; mentor junior engineers.
• Participate in FATs, SATs, commissioning and system energisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and analysis of HV and MV electrical power systems for mining and industrial facilities.
• Perform power system studies including:
  • Load Flow Analysis
  • Short Circuit Studies
  • Protection Coordination
  • Arc Flash Studies
  • Harmonic Analysis
  • Motor Starting Studies
  • Transient & Stability Studies
• Develop substation and electrical distribution designs.
• Design and review protection philosophies and relay settings.
• Prepare technical specifications, reports and engineering documentation.
• Review vendor documentation and provide technical evaluations.
• Participate in FATs, SATs, commissioning and system energisation.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Interface with mining clients, EPCM teams and equipment suppliers.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS, IEC, IEEE and applicable mining standards.
• Support feasibility studies, concept engineering and detailed design projects.
• Assist with tender preparation and technical proposals.

Minimum Requirements

• BEng/BSc Electrical Engineering (Power Systems).
• 5+ years' experience in electrical power systems engineering.
• Proven experience within mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial projects.
• Strong understanding of HV and MV networks.
• Experience with substations, switchgear and protection systems.
