Job summary

Capitec seeks a Senior Platform Engineer in Stellenbosch to expand the internal developer platform for AI-driven software delivery. You’ll work with GitHub, Kubernetes, AWS/EKS, Terraform and CI/CD to empower 1,000+ engineers and accelerate production release cycles.

The role focuses on building scalable, automated infrastructure and platform capabilities, transforming how engineers move code from commit to production in an AI-first world.

Qualifications

• Deep experience in platform engineering, site reliability or DevOps engineering.
• At least five years in cloud environments.
• Infrastructure as code using Terraform, CloudFormation or similar.
• CI/CD pipelines experience (Jenkins or GitHub Actions).
• Containers and orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Cloud-native systems design including microservices and event‑driven architectures.
• Scripting or programming: Python, Go, Bash or PowerShell.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure with relevant certifications.
• Strong networking, security, APIs, databases and distributed systems knowledge.
• Ability to explain architecture decisions clearly and mentor others.
• Experience leading or influencing engineering practices.

Build the platform that powers engineering at scale

We're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to help reimagine how software moves from commit to production in an AI‑first world. Our focus is extending our Internal Developer Platform to support AI‑generated software, removing bottlenecks that slow engineers down, and building the guardrails, automation and governance needed to safely accelerate delivery at scale. You'll be building platform capabilities that influence the day‑to‑day experience of 1,000+ engineers, shaping how software is built, tested, secured and released across the organisation.

Working across GitHub, Kubernetes, AWS, EKS, Terraform, GitOps and CI/CD, you'll help challenge traditional assumptions about software delivery and engineer the next generation of developer workflows. Many of today's delivery models were designed for a world where humans authored most of the code.

This role is for someone who enjoys building more than maintaining. Someone who can take an idea from concept to POC to production. Someone who sees friction, questions why it exists, and then automates it away.

About our team

We operate within a broader platform engineering function responsible for developer experience, Kubernetes and platform support. This role sits in the team focused on our internal developer platform, the tooling engineers use to provision infrastructure, build pipelines and deploy into our cloud environment. Our platform is used by multiple engineering teams across the business and is central to how we deliver software at scale. The team currently includes engineers across multiple seniority levels, and we are adding another senior engineer to strengthen our technical depth.

What you'll do

• We will rely on you to design and implement infrastructure using code, enabling consistent, repeatable and scalable environments across our cloud platform.
• Wewill expect you to build and optimise cloud‑native deployment pipelines that support high‑frequency, low‑risk releases.
• We will look to you to enhance our internal developer platform, improving how engineers provision infrastructure and deploy services.
• We will count on you to troubleshoot complexplatform and performance issues across distributed systems and lead root-cause investigations.
• Wewill expect you to contribute to architectural decisions across microservices, event‑driven systems and cloud‑native patterns.
• We will rely on you to mentor other engineers and raise the engineering standard across the team.

What we're looking for

• We are looking for deep experience in platform engineering, site reliability or DevOps engineering.
• We expect at least five years of hands‑on experience working in cloud environments.
• Werequire strong experience building infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation or similar.
• We are looking for solid experience building andmaintaining CI/CD pipelines, for example Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
• We expect strong hands‑on experience with containers and orchestration, particularly Kubernetes.
