Job summary

QE Services IT Recruitment is seeking a Platform Engineer in Cape Town to design, build and maintain scalable internal developer platforms for engineering teams. You will develop self-service capabilities, APIs and automation to streamline software development and deployment.

You will implement IaC with Terraform/CDK/Pulumi, manage Kubernetes environments and lead GitOps workflows while delivering robust CI/CD pipelines and observability across systems.

Qualifications

• 4+ years as a Software Engineer with Java, JavaScript, Golang or Python.
• 3+ years in Platform Engineering and self-service platform experience.
• 4+ years with AWS, Azure or GCP.
• 4+ years with containerisation technologies and cloud-native tech.
• Expert knowledge of IaC with Terraform, CDK, Pulumi or Crossplane.
• Strong Kubernetes, GitOps and CI/CD experience.

• Troubleshoot complex platform, infrastructure and application issues to ensure system availability and performance.
• Apply cloud architecture best practices and Well-Architected Framework principles to platform design and implementation.
• Collaborate with software engineers to understand requirements and deliver effective platform solutions.
• Evaluate technologies, identify automation opportunities and continuously improve platform capabilities.
• Promote platform capabilities as a product or service for internal engineering teams.

My client based in Cape Town is currently looking for a Platform Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis.

IT / FINANCE

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable, secure and reliable internal developer platforms for engineering teams.
• Develop self-service platform capabilities, APIs, automation and tools that simplify software development and deployment.
• Build reusable platform components and abstractions that enable engineering teams to work more efficiently and independently.
• Implement and manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools and established best practices.
• Manage and optimise container platforms and Kubernetes environments.
• Implement and maintain GitOps workflows for application deployment and infrastructure management.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated builds, testing, deployment and delivery.

Qualifications & Experience

• 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, working with programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Golang or Python.
• 3+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, building self-service platforms and tools for engineering teams.
• 4+ years of experience working with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• 4+ years of experience with containerisation technologies and container platforms.
• Strong experience in building and maintaining production-grade platforms, platform APIs, automation tools and internal developer platforms.
• Expert knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CDK, Pulumi or Crossplane.
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, container orchestration and cloud-native technologies.
• Experience with Kubernetes GitOps practices and tools such as Argo CD, Flux, Helm or Kustomize.
• Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, CloudWatch or X-Ray.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions and GitLab CI/CD.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, service architectures, cloud-native systems and their design trade-offs.
• Relevant Kubernetes or public cloud certifications, such as CKA, AWS, Azure or GCP certifications, would be advantageous.
