Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Research Chemist in Benoni to design and execute multi-step organic syntheses for novel compounds. The role involves characterizing products with NMR, MS, and HPLC, and collaborating with cross-functional teams in a cutting-edge lab environment.

The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. or MSc in Organic Chemistry with 3–5 years of hands-on R&D experience, strong purification skills, and a deep understanding of modern synthetic methods.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry or related field.
• 3–5 years hands-on synthetic organic chemistry experience, preferably in an R&D setting.
• Proficiency in designing and performing complex organic reactions.
• Strong knowledge of modern synthetic techniques and reagents.
• Experience with purification methods such as column chromatography and crystallization.
• Familiarity with spectroscopic techniques for compound characterization.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute multi-step synthetic routes for novel organic molecules with high efficiency and purity.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using a range of spectroscopic and analytical techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC).
• Optimize reaction conditions and troubleshoot synthetic challenges to improve yields and scalability.
• Conduct literature searches and stay updated on the latest advancements in organic synthesis methodologies.
• Collaborate with other scientists to integrate synthesized compounds into broader research programs.
• Maintain meticulous laboratory records and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
