Job summary

Placements24 seeks an Organic Chemist to lead and execute complex multi-step syntheses of novel compounds within a well-equipped R&D laboratory in Paarl. You will plan synthetic routes, optimize conditions, purify products, and characterize compounds using NMR, MS, and FTIR.

The role emphasizes rigorous experimentation, meticulous record-keeping, and collaboration with a team driving scientific innovation in a research setting in the Western Cape.

Qualifications

• PhD in Organic Chemistry or closely related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
• Proven expertise in a wide range of organic reactions and synthetic methodologies.
• Strong proficiency in modern spectroscopic techniques (1D/2D NMR) and other analytical methods for compound characterization.

Responsibilities

• Design and perform complex multi-step organic syntheses of target molecules.
• Optimize reaction conditions to maximize yield, purity, and efficiency.
• Purify synthesized compounds using chromatographic techniques and crystallization.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using NMR, MS, FTIR and other methods.
• Troubleshoot synthetic challenges and develop innovative solutions.
• Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and prepare technical reports.
