Job summary

Simera Sense, based in Somerset West, is seeking a Senior Optomechanical Engineer to lead design and integration of high-precision systems for space applications. You will collaborate with optical, mechanical, thermal, and electrical engineers, guiding development from concept to testing.

The role requires a Master’s degree with 5–10 years in optomechanical engineering (space industry preferred). You will mentor junior engineers and drive cross-functional projects in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Master's in Optomechanical/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5–10 years in optomechanical or mechanical engineering, space industry preferred.
• Experience with optical mounts, lenses, mirrors, sensors.
• Proven leadership and mentoring of junior engineers.
• Proficient CAD skills.
• Experience with complex test equipment and environmental testing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the detailed design and development of spaceborne optomechanical systems.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and high-tolerance drawings of optomechanical components.
• Evaluate designs for manufacturability, performance, and reliability.
• Oversee the integration and testing, including environmental tests.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams and manage project milestones.
• Prepare technical documentation and reports.
