Job summary

Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine (Pty) Ltd invites applications for a laboratory-focused role in the Limpopo province. The successful candidate will obtain, prepare and test samples, support plant optimisation campaigns, and assist with calibration and verification to ensure product quality meeting customer requirements.

Responsibilities include collecting samples from multiple outlets, preparing them for analysis, and reporting results to the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 with Mathematics & Physical Science is required.
• Advantageous: National Diploma/ BSc in Analytical Chemistry or Chemistry.
• Advantageous: SANAS ISO-IEC 17025 training certificate.

Responsibilities

• Obtain, prepare and test samples; assist in plant optimisation tests and equipment calibration.
• Collect samples from cutters, stockpiles, special points and dispatch trucks to the lab.
• Prepare samples for analysis and weigh or fuse as required; transfer to volumetric flasks.
• Analyze samples on analytical equipment and report results to supervisor.
• Verify moisture analyser, sieve sizes, oven function and recording of results.
• Take pH readings and adjust solutions accordingly.

Job description

Our mine, situated in the Limpopo Province about 60 kilometers from Lydenburg and 40 kilometers from Burgersfort, and is a world-class producer of Chrome Ore.

The successful applicant will report to the Laboratory Analyst or nominee.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12 / Standard 10 Certificate with Mathematics & Physical Science.
• Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.
• Advantageous: National Diploma: Analytical Chemistry /BSc Chemistry.
• Advantageous: Certificate: SANAS Laboratory Systems / ISO-IEC 17025 Training.

EXPERIENCE (including but not limited to):

• 6 months - 1 year practical exposure relevant to Laboratory process equipment and mining environment.

DUTIES (including but not limited to):

• Obtain, prepare and test all samples and to assist in plant optimisation test work campaigns and equipment calibration and verification to ensure product quality standards to meet customer requirements.
• Accurately collect samples at the sample cutters, stockpiles, special sampling points and the dispatch trucks and transport to the Laboratory. Collect samples from other outlets.
• Prepare the samples for analysis on the analytical instruments within the specified turnaround times. Assist analyst in sample preparation by weighing samples and fusing samplers and leeching samples using analytical tools and techniques. Transfer samples into volumetric flasks.
• Analyse the samples on the analytical equipment as per instruction/procedures. Report the results to the supervisor in the format specified for each kind of analysis in order to optimise the plant control processes.
• Verify moisture analyser by use appropriate and following prescribed procedure. Verify product sizes by using sieve masters, record results and make recommendations. Conduct mini-efficiencies using sieves to ensure quality and consistency. Verify oven functioning to ensure effectiveness of drying functions using equipment and procedures, record results and make recommendations.
• Take pH readings. Gradually add whitewash to make more. Continue readings and adding solution until solution is basis.
