Placements24 is seeking a Principal Mining Engineer to lead open pit operations in Sandton, Gauteng. You will drive long- and short-term mine plans, oversee design and scheduling, and optimize equipment use to boost safety and efficiency.

The role requires a Master's in Mining Engineering, 10–12 years of open pit experience, and Pr.Eng registration. You will mentor engineers, perform economic analyses, and coordinate with geotech, geology, and operations for integrated mine performance.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• 10–12 years progressive experience in open pit mining, with senior/management exposure.
• Pr.Eng registration with ECSA or equivalent is essential.
• Willingness to travel to operational sites as required.

Responsibilities

• Develop long-term and short-term mining plans for open pit operations.
• Oversee open pit mine design, slope stability, and geotechnical assessments.
• Optimize production schedules, fleet usage, and equipment selection.
• Conduct economic evaluations (NPV, IRR, payback) for projects.
• Ensure health, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance.
• Lead and mentor a team of mining engineers and specialists.
• Evaluate mining technologies and equipment for performance.
• Collaborate with geology, metallurgy, and engineering teams for integrated operations.
• Manage mine closure planning and rehabilitation strategies.
• Represent the company in technical forums and stakeholder engagements.
