Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer for a leading telecom in South Africa. Based in Midrand with hybrid work options, you will design, deploy, and manage scalable network infrastructure across routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.

You will ensure reliability, security, and performance for a large customer base, mentor junior engineers, document configurations, and stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in network engineering and infrastructure management.
• Proven expertise in Cisco, Juniper, or similar enterprise-grade networking hardware.
• In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and other routing and switching protocols.
• Experience with network security concepts, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
• Familiarity with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds or PRTG.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCIE, JNCIE) are highly desirable.
• Experience working within the telecoms industry is a strong advantage.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain robust and scalable network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
• Monitor network performance and troubleshoot complex issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal service delivery.
• Develop and implement network security policies and procedures to protect against cyber threats.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute network upgrades and new deployments.
• Document network configurations, procedures, and standards.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior network engineers.
• Stay abreast of emerging network technologies and industry best practices.
• Manage vendor relationships and evaluate new network hardware and software solutions.
