Placements24 is seeking a Principal Nanotechnology Researcher for Mossel Bay, Western Cape. This leadership role drives pioneering research in nanomaterials, conceptualizing, designing, and executing high-impact projects while guiding a team of scientists and engineers.

The role blends independent, exploratory work with collaborative activities in a hybrid environment. Candidates should hold a PhD in a nanotech-related field, have 8+ years of experience, and possess a strong publication record

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Nanotechnology, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive research experience in nanotechnology, with leadership experience.
• Expertise in nanomaterial synthesis, nanolithography, or nano-device fabrication.
• Proficiency with advanced characterization techniques relevant to nanoscale materials (AFM, STM, electron microscopy, spectroscopy).
• Experience leading research teams and managing complex R&D projects.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong publication record and outstanding communication skills.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment balancing independent research with collaboration.
• Experience with computational modeling of nanoscale phenomena is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic direction and execution of research projects in nanotechnology, focusing on novel material synthesis, characterization, and application development.
• Design and implement advanced experimental protocols for manipulating and analyzing nanomaterials.
• Oversee operation and maintenance of state-of-the-art nanotechnology laboratory equipment.
• Mentor and guide junior researchers, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment.
• Analyze complex experimental data, interpret results, and develop robust theoretical frameworks.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners, including academic institutions and industry leaders.
• Author high-impact publications in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at international conferences.
• Contribute to patent applications and the development of intellectual property.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and best practices in the nanotechnology laboratory.
