Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Nanomaterials Scientist to direct R&D on novel nanomaterials at a Cape Town facility. You will oversee synthesis, characterization, and application development, driving publications and patent activity.

The role requires a PhD and 7+ years of nanomaterials research, with proven leadership and cross-functional collaboration. Relocation support is possible in a vibrant, forward-thinking lab environment.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field with a specialization in nanomaterials.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive research experience in nanomaterials science and engineering.
• Proven leadership of research teams and project management experience.
• Experience with SEM, TEM, AFM, XRD, and spectroscopy.

Responsibilities

• Direct R&D of nanomaterials with targeted electronic, optical, and mechanical properties.
• Oversee synthesis, processing and characterization of nanoparticles, nanotubes, and thin films.
• Lead budgeting, timelines and resource allocation for projects.
• Mentor scientists and collaborate with engineering and product teams.
• Publish findings, present at conferences, and contribute to patents.
• Ensure laboratory safety and compliance.
