Our client, a major mining conglomerate with operations in the East London area, is seeking a highly accomplished and results-driven Senior Mining Operations Manager with extensive experience in underground mining. This executive role carries the ultimate responsibility for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of our underground mining activities. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of mine production, including planning, execution, resource management, and workforce supervision, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and stakeholder expectations. Based in East London, you will lead a substantial team of mine managers, supervisors, and operational staff, fostering a culture of safety, productivity, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of underground mining operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and profitability in the East London vicinity.
• Develop and implement strategic production plans, resource allocation, and operational targets.
• Manage budgets, capital expenditure, and operational costs effectively to meet financial objectives.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of mining professionals, including mine managers, supervisors, and operational staff.
• Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in the Eastern Cape.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, adopting new technologies and best practices to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, geology, metallurgy, and maintenance departments to optimize integrated mine performance.
• Manage stakeholder relationships, including government agencies, local communities, and corporate management.
• Oversee risk management processes and implement mitigation strategies for operational challenges.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure the well-being of all employees.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline. A Master's degree or an MBA is highly advantageous.
• A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in underground mining operations, with at least 7 years in a senior management role.
• Demonstrated success in managing large-scale, complex underground mining operations.
• In-depth knowledge of various underground mining methods, equipment, and technologies.
• Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management and cost control.
• Proven leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
• Excellent strategic planning, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
• Comprehensive understanding of South African mining legislation, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng.) registration or equivalent is preferred.
