Placements24 is recruiting a Senior Mining Operations Manager for its flagship site in Polokwane, Limpopo. You will lead a large workforce, drive safety and production excellence, manage significant budgets, and implement strategic initiatives to optimise productivity across the mining lifecycle.

You will oversee both open-pit and underground operations, develop annual budgets, and foster a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Competenze

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• Master’s degree/MBA is a strong advantage.
• 10–15 years of progressive mining operations leadership experience.
• Experience in open-pit and/or underground mining preferred.
• Proven leadership, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement skills.

About the Role

Our client, a globally recognised leader in resource extraction, is seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Senior Mining Operations Manager to oversee their flagship operation in **Polokwane, Limpopo**. This senior leadership role is responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable execution of all mining activities, from extraction to production. The successful candidate will lead a large workforce, manage operational budgets, and implement strategic initiatives to optimise productivity and drive continuous improvement. This is a demanding yet highly rewarding position requiring strong leadership, exceptional operational acumen, and a deep understanding of the mining lifecycle. We are looking for a visionary leader to guide our **Polokwane, Limpopo** operations to new heights.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of daily mining operations, including planning, execution, and control of extraction activities.
• Ensure the achievement of production targets safely, on time, and within budget.
• Develop and implement operational strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve resource recovery.
• Manage and lead a diverse team of mining professionals, supervisors, and operational staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and high performance.
• Develop and manage annual operating budgets, capital expenditure plans, and resource allocation.
• Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, environmental, and community relations policies and regulations.
• Implement and champion continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging best practices and new technologies.
• Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, suppliers, and local communities.
• Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and development for the operations team.
• Report on operational performance to executive management.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• A Master's degree or MBA is a strong advantage.
• A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in mining operations management, with a proven track record of success in large-scale operations.
• Extensive experience in both open-pit and/or underground mining operations is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate large teams.
• Strong financial acumen and experience managing significant operational budgets.
• In-depth knowledge of mining methods, equipment, safety regulations, and environmental compliance.
• Excellent strategic planning, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to reside in or relocate to the **Polokwane, Limpopo** area and work full-time.
• Valid driver's license required.
