Placements24 seeks a Senior Mining Operations Manager to lead our client’s Benoni site in Gauteng. You will drive safe, cost-efficient production across underground and open-pit operations, with full P&L responsibility and strategic planning.

You will manage a diverse team of engineers, supervisors and operators, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental standards and statutory regulations while partnering with geology, maintenance and processing to optimise performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• 10–12 years of progressive mining operations experience.
• Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency (CoC) required.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• Knowledge of various mining methods, technologies, and equipment.
• Ability to manage budgets and control costs.
• Commitment to safety and environmental best practices.

About the Role

Our client, a highly reputable and established entity within the South African mining sector , is actively seeking an accomplished and dynamic Senior Mining Operations Manager to lead their key operational site in Benoni, Gauteng . This senior leadership position is responsible for the overall management and optimization of all mining activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective production that meets strategic targets. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of underground and/or open-pit mining operations, including planning, execution, and monitoring of production activities.
• Ensure the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental performance are maintained and continuously improved across the operation.
• Manage and optimize operational budgets, controlling costs while maximizing resource utilization and productivity.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of mining professionals, including engineers, supervisors, and operational staff.
• Collaborate closely with other departments, such as geology, engineering, maintenance, and processing, to ensure integrated and efficient operations.
• Develop and implement strategic operational plans and initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce risks, and achieve long-term business objectives.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, mining regulations, and company policies.
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational discipline throughout the mining workforce.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
• A Master's degree or MBA is advantageous.
• A valid Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency (CoC).
• A minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in mine operations management, with a proven track record of successfully managing large and complex mining sites.
• Extensive knowledge of various mining methods, technologies, and equipment.
• Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management and cost control.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, health, and environmental best practices.
• Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and drive operational performance.
