Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mineral Processing Engineer for our client in Centurion, Gauteng. This field-centric role requires on-site presence to optimize crushing and separation circuits, improve recovery and product quality, and ensure safety and environmental standards.

You will work with geologists, mine planners, and maintenance teams, conduct metallurgical test work, analyze data, and develop strategies to maximize plant performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mineral Processing.
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in mineral processing operations, preferably in base metals or precious metals.
• Proven expertise in comminution, flotation, gravity separation, and leaching processes.
• Strong understanding of metallurgical accounting and mass balance calculations.
• Experience with process simulation software (e.g., METSIM, JKSimMet).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable operational improvements.
• Strong communication and leadership skills to effectively manage and motivate plant personnel.
• Commitment to health, safety, and environmental best practices.
• Willingness to work at operational sites, including extended periods if necessary.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the operation and performance of mineral processing plants, including crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching, and dewatering circuits.
• Conduct metallurgical test work and pilot plant studies to evaluate new processes and optimize existing ones.
• Analyze process data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement in mineral recovery and grade.
• Develop and implement strategies to maximize mineral recovery rates and product quality.
• Troubleshoot operational problems and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime and maximize output.
• Ensure all processing activities comply with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with geologists, mine planners, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless integration of processing operations.
• Prepare technical reports, process documentation, and recommendations for plant upgrades and modifications.
• Monitor and control reagent consumption and chemical usage to optimize costs and environmental impact.
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in mineral processing technology and methodologies.
