Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Planning Engineer for a client near Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. The role focuses on strategic design and optimization of mining plans to maximize resource recovery and ensure safe, efficient operations.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's in Mining Engineering with 6+ years' planning experience and proficiency in Vulcan, Surpac, or Deswik, to develop short- and long-term plans and present recommendations to management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in mine planning and design (open-pit or underground).
• Proficiency in Vulcan, Surpac, Deswik or equivalent software.
• Strong knowledge of geological modeling, reserve estimation, and mine economics.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Clear communication of technical information to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize short-term and long-term mine plans.
• Create detailed mine layouts including haul roads and ramps.
• Perform reserve calculations and validate resource models.
• Collaborate with operations and geotechnical teams for practical plans.
• Use planning software to simulate scenarios and assess costs.
• Prepare reports and presentations for management.
