Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Mine Engineer in Mossel Bay, Western Cape to lead surface mining operations and drive efficiency and safety. You will coordinate long- and short-term plans, layouts, and budgeting, while mentoring engineers, geologists, and surveyors.

A Bachelor's in Mining Engineering and 10+ years of experience, including leadership, are required; Pr.Eng is highly desirable. The role offers a competitive package with bonuses, medical aid, and relocation support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 10+ years of progressive mine engineering experience.
• 5+ years in leadership for surface mining operations.
• Proficiency with Deswik, MineSight or Vulcan.
• Pr.Eng or equivalent certification highly desirable.
• Experience in Western Cape or similar geology.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement long-term and short-term mine plans for surface operations, focusing on maximizing resource recovery and economic viability.
• Oversee the design and optimization of mine layouts, pit limits, and infrastructure, including haul roads and waste dumps.
• Manage and mentor a team of mine engineers, geologists, and surveyors, providing technical guidance and professional development.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining projects and expansions.
• Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
• Select and implement appropriate mining technologies and equipment to enhance operational efficiency.
• Monitor mine production performance against targets and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Collaborate with other departments, including processing, maintenance, and finance, to ensure integrated operational planning.
• Develop and manage the operational budget for the mining department.
• Investigate and report on incidents, implementing preventative measures.
