Placements24 seeks a highly experienced Senior MEP Engineer to join a fully remote team. You will design, coordinate and oversee MEP systems for complex building projects from a home office, with Durban-based conceptual base. Strong autonomous work capabilities and energy efficiency focus are essential.

Responsibilities include leading MEP design, performing HVAC/electrical/plumbing calculations, and mentoring junior engineers while ensuring compliance with codes and sustainability targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Pr.Eng registration with ECSA or eligible.
• 7+ years of MEP design experience for building projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, Navisworks.
• Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Strong understanding of local building codes and energy performance standards.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and remote-work skills.
• Experience with LEED/Green Star is advantageous.
• Reliable internet connection and home office setup.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a prestigious firm in the construction and engineering sector, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior MEP Engineer to join their fully remote team. This role is critical for the successful execution of complex building projects, focusing on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems. As a remote employee, you will leverage advanced collaboration tools to design, coordinate, and oversee the implementation of sophisticated MEP solutions from your home office. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of MEP systems for various construction projects, ensuring integration and efficiency.
• Perform complex calculations for heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), electrical power distribution, lighting, and water supply/drainage systems.
• Develop detailed MEP drawings, specifications, and schedules using industry-standard software.
• Coordinate MEP designs with architectural, structural, and other engineering disciplines in a virtual environment.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) from contractors.
• Conduct virtual site inspections and provide technical support during the construction phase to ensure adherence to design intent.
• Ensure all MEP designs comply with relevant building codes, standards (e.g., SANS), and energy efficiency regulations.
• Assist in the selection of MEP equipment and materials, considering performance, cost, and sustainability.
• Mentor and guide junior MEP engineers, fostering technical growth within the remote team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA or eligible for registration.
• A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in MEP design for building projects.
• Proficiency in MEP design and analysis software such as AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, Navisworks, or similar.
• Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems design principles.
• Strong understanding of local building codes and energy performance standards.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills for remote teamwork.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
• Experience in sustainable design practices and green building certifications (e.g., LEED, Green Star) is advantageous.
