Job summary

MedE Recruit is seeking an experienced Medical Technologist to join a growing diagnostic pathology laboratory in Pietermaritzburg. You will sign off pathology results and maintain high standards of quality and patient care.

The ideal candidate holds HPCSA registration, has strong analytical skills, and can work with laboratory equipment in an ISO 15189 environment. Excellent communication and confidentiality are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science
• Current HPCSA registration as an Independent Medical Technologist
• Minimum of 3 years’ post-registration laboratory experience
• Ability to sign off pathology results
• Experience with laboratory equipment
• ISO 15189 accreditation advantageous
• Sound knowledge of laboratory quality management systems
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• High ethical standards and strict regard for patient confidentiality
• Computer literacy and LIS experience

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic laboratory testing according to established SOPs
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation
• Validate, verify, and sign off pathology results prior to release
• Perform quality control and participate in quality assurance programmes
• Investigate and resolve technical or quality-related issues
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation
• Ensure compliance with HPCSA, ISO 15189 and relevant laboratory requirements
• Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives
• Assist with training and mentoring junior laboratory personnel
• Collaborate with pathologists, clinicians, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
