About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a seasoned Senior Mechanical Engineer with expertise in process design to join their team, remotely supporting operations near Richards Bay. This role is critical for developing and optimizing intricate mechanical processes within their industrial facilities. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and implementing robust process systems that enhance efficiency, safety, and output. The position requires an individual who can work autonomously, leverage advanced simulation and design tools, and provide expert technical consultation to project teams across different locations. This remote role offers significant autonomy and the chance to impact large-scale industrial operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual designs and detailed engineering plans for complex mechanical process systems.
• Perform process simulations and analyses to optimize system performance, energy consumption, and material flow.
• Specify mechanical equipment, piping, instrumentation, and control systems required for new installations and upgrades.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
• Provide technical support and guidance to project teams, construction personnel, and operational staff during implementation and troubleshooting.
• Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed process improvements and capital projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical process design, preferably within the petrochemical or heavy industry sectors.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD tools.
• Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics applied to industrial processes.
• Experience with P&ID development and equipment selection.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for remote collaboration.
