Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a consumer electronics innovator in Mahikeng, North West. You will lead mechanical design, develop 3D CAD models, and drive DFM/ DFA initiatives from concept to mass production, ensuring thermal performance and product reliability.

You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate across electrical, software, and industrial design teams to deliver cutting-edge devices.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years in mechanical design and product development for consumer electronics.
• Experience with SolidWorks or Creo and ANSYS.
• Experience with plastic injection molding, metal stamping, and related manufacturing processes.
• Strong understanding of thermal management and acoustics in electronic devices.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration across functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of new consumer electronic products.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and specifications for components and assemblies.
• Conduct thorough thermal, stress, and vibration analyses to ensure product reliability and performance.
• Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, industrial designers, and software developers.
• Work with manufacturing partners to implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
• Oversee prototype builds, testing, and validation phases to ensure product requirements are met.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical issues during development and production.
• Manage project timelines and deliverables for mechanical engineering aspects.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
