Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for its Paarl-based Oil & Gas operations. The role focuses on design, analysis, troubleshooting, and maintenance strategies for a broad range of mechanical assets used in upstream and downstream activities.

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluids, heat transfer and materials science, and proficiency in CAD/FEA.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of mechanical engineering experience with Oil & Gas exposure.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and materials science.
• Proficient in CAD/FEA software and familiar with ASME, API and TEMA codes.
• Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed design, analysis and specification of mechanical equipment (pumps, turbines, heat exchangers).
• Develop mechanical integrity programs and maintenance strategies.
• Troubleshoot complex failures and field operational issues.
• Review vendor documents and ensure compliance with project specs and codes.
• Collaborate with project teams, operations and vendors for lifecycle management.
• Contribute to improving mechanical engineering standards for Paarl operations.

About the Role

Our client seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team supporting the Oil & Gas industry in Paarl . This role is integral to ensuring the reliability, integrity, and optimal performance of mechanical equipment and systems used in upstream and downstream operations. You will be responsible for design, analysis, troubleshooting, and maintenance strategies for a wide range of mechanical assets.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed design, analysis, and specification of mechanical equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, and heat exchangers.
• Conduct mechanical integrity assessments and develop preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical failures and operational issues in the field.
• Review and approve vendor documentation and ensure compliance with project specifications and industry codes (e.g., ASME, API).
• Collaborate with project teams, operations personnel, and vendors to ensure successful project execution and equipment lifecycle management.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of mechanical engineering standards and practices for operations in Paarl .
