Job summary

F&M Staff Solutions in South Africa seeks an experienced mechanical engineer to lead HVAC design for building services, with a focus on heat loads, ventilation and compliance with local standards.

Candidates should have a BEng/BSc/BTech in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering, active ECSA registration, 5+ years post-graduation, and proficiency in HAP/Loadest/IES and Revit. Driver's license and own vehicle are preferred.

Job description

This role is predominantly HVAC. Experience in medical gases, mechanical utilities, wet services/public health, fuel system design, vertical transportation and/or fire engineering is advantageous.

Minimum requirements:

• BEng/BSc/BTech in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering.
• Active ECSA registration as Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng.
• 5+ years’ post-graduation experience in building services. Currently working for a consulting engineering firm advantageous.
• Proven HVAC design and construction monitoring, including air-conditioning heat loads and ventilation calculations to local and international standards.
• Knowledge of SANS (particularly ventilation); British Standards and ASHRAE is advantageous.
• Experience in at least one: data centres, cleanrooms, advanced manufacturing or healthcare facilities.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software (HAP, Loadest, IES) and air/fluid/heat-flow calculations.
• Working knowledge of Revit and other BIM software, plus navigation of document management systems (e.g. Autodesk ACC/Forma).
• Mechanical project scoping, scope monitoring, cost control, tender documentation and management, project effort/time estimates and BOQs.
• Ability to oversee mechanical contractors and contract management.
• South African citizen/PR.
• Valid driver’s licence, and own vehicle.
• No criminal record (will be verified).
