Job summary

thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Mechanical Engineering Department. The candidate will lead projects, interact with clients, and review PFD/P&ID, HAZOP and SIL; provide manpower planning and scheduling; and oversee site scoping and pressure equipment design.

Required is a BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering with about 8 years’ contracting experience in energy or chemical sectors.

Qualifications

• BSc or BEng in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• 8 years of engineering experience in contracting environments.
• Experience in energy, chemical, refining, or petrochemical projects preferred.
• Professional registration with ECSA is preferable.

Responsibilities

• Interact with the client to understand and deliver to client’s expectations.
• Perform lead engineer role on various projects.
• Participate in PFD and P&ID reviews, HAZOP & SIL reviews, 3D model and constructability reviews.
• Perform manpower planning and project schedule management for the projects where a lead engineer role is held.
• Perform scoping exercises on site.
• Specification and design of pressure-containing equipment.
• Preparation of project standards, engineering and technical specifications.
• Preparation of MCFDs.
• Prepare Scope of Work / Works Information for supply of services and management of consultants to deliver to scope, quality and schedule.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with relevant design house experience to join the Mechanical Engineering Department.

The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the following job description but not limited to:

• Interaction with the client to understand and deliver to Client’s expectations.
• Performing lead engineer role on various projects.
• Participate in PFD and P&ID Reviews, HAZOP & SIL reviews, 3D model and constructability reviews
• Perform manpower planning and project schedule management for the projects where a lead engineer role is held.
• Perform scoping exercises on site
• Specification and design of pressure containing equipment
• Preparation of project standards, engineering and technical specifications
• Preparation of MCFDs
• Proficient in preparation and issuing technical specifications and enquiry documentation to vendors and subsequent review of vendor documentation to ensure design integrity and compliance with specifications.
• Preparation of Scope of Work / Works Information for supply of services and management of consultants to deliver to scope, quality and schedule.

The successful candidate must be in possession of a BSc./ B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering degree with 8 years engineering experience in a contracting environment working on projects in the energy and chemical/ refining / petrochemical industries.

Professional Registration with ECSA is preferable.

A working knowledge of NEC would be an added advantage

Experience in brownfield project execution.
