About the Role

Our client, a leader in designing and manufacturing specialized industrial equipment, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Designer to join their team in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. This role is crucial for the conceptualization, detailed design, and development of innovative mechanical systems and components that drive our client's product portfolio. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in CAD software, a strong understanding of material science, and a passion for engineering excellence. You will be responsible for transforming client needs and internal requirements into robust, efficient, and manufacturable designs, contributing directly to the company's technological advancements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of complex industrial equipment from concept to production.
• Utilize advanced CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor) for 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and assembly design.
• Perform stress analysis, tolerance analysis, and other engineering calculations to ensure design integrity and performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, production, and R&D, to integrate mechanical designs with other system components.
• Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical specifications for manufactured parts and assemblies.
• Create and maintain design documentation, including drawings, reports, and design reviews.
• Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during prototyping and manufacturing phases.
• Research and recommend new materials, technologies, and design methodologies to improve product performance and manufacturability.
• Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on industrial equipment or machinery.
• Proficiency in industry-standard CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD).
• Strong understanding of mechanical principles, including statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, injection molding) and material selection.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
