Placements24 represents a prominent global insurer recruiting a seasoned Underwriting Manager to lead the Marine & Cargo division in Durban. The role demands strategic oversight, risk assessment acumen, and proven leadership to drive profitable growth in a dynamic market.

The position focuses on developing underwriting strategies, guiding a team of underwriters, and building relationships with brokers and clients while staying aligned with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Maritime Studies or related field.
• Master's degree or ACII/FCII preferred.
• Minimum 7 years underwriting experience with at least 3 years in a management role in Marine & Cargo insurance.
• Strong knowledge of international marine insurance markets, BIMCO and Institute Cargo Clauses.
• Proven track record in underwriting and portfolio management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement underwriting strategies for Marine & Cargo portfolio.
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of underwriters.
• Underwrite complex marine and cargo risk and ensure adherence to risk appetite.
• Analyze market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape.
• Monitor profitability and performance, take corrective actions when needed.
• Build relationships with brokers, agents, and key clients.
