Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Marine Cargo Insurance Specialist in Cape Town to manage and grow a diverse marine cargo insurance portfolio. You will underwrite complex international and domestic shipments, advise clients and brokers on terms, and ensure competitive coverage in a dynamic market.

The role requires 4+ years in marine cargo underwriting, knowledge of Hague-Visby Rules, and strong negotiation and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in marine cargo underwriting or related field.
• Thorough understanding of international shipping operations, logistics and risks.
• Ability to underwrite complex marine risks and maintain profitable portfolio.
• Knowledge of relevant insurance legislation and Hague-Visby Rules.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage a diverse portfolio of marine cargo insurance risks.
• Assess and analyze risks related to international and domestic shipping of goods.
• Develop and negotiate policy terms, conditions and premiums with clients and brokers.
• Provide expert advice on marine coverage, regulatory requirements and risk mitigation.
• Investigate and process marine cargo claims with surveyors and legal experts.
• Monitor market trends and global trade changes affecting marine insurance.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships with ship owners and brokers.
• Ensure compliance with insurance laws, regulations and underwriting standards.
• Assist in developing new marine insurance products and services.
• Conduct portfolio reviews to assess performance and identify improvements.
