Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Livestock Manager for a large farming operation near Port Elizabeth. You will oversee health, welfare, and productivity of cattle, sheep and other livestock, leading a team to implement best practices in animal husbandry and breeding programs.

You will manage grazing rotation, monitor herd health, and coordinate with veterinarians. The role requires 5+ years of leadership in extensive farming environments and a strong outdoor work orientation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as Livestock Manager or senior animal husbandry role.
• Knowledge of animal breeding, nutrition and disease prevention.
• Experience managing large herds or flocks in extensive farming systems.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Comfort working outdoors with livestock.
• Familiarity with Port Elizabeth agricultural context is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily care and management of livestock, including feeding, watering, and health monitoring.
• Implement and manage breeding programs to improve herd genetics and productivity.
• Ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations and ethical farming standards.
• Manage grazing rotation and pasture management to optimize land use and herd health.
• Supervise and train livestock handlers and farm workers.
• Monitor livestock health, administer basic treatments, and coordinate with veterinarians for complex cases.
