Job summary

Jobgether is partnering to fill a senior Linux Platform Engineering role in South Africa. The successful candidate will own and evolve enterprise Linux platforms across on-prem and cloud environments, shaping strategy, architecture, automation, security, reliability, and lifecycle management at scale.

This leadership position focuses on platform outcomes, engineering standards, and continuous modernization, driving DevOps and IaC across teams, and mentoring others toward higher platform

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 7-10+ years Linux platform engineering experience in enterprise environments.
• Deep expertise in SUSE or RHEL across large-scale deployments.
• Automation and IaC using Ansible, Terraform, Puppet or similar.
• VMware vSphere or equivalent virtualization experience.
• Networking fundamentals including DNS, DHCP, NTP, TCP/IP.
• Security hardening and compliance in enterprise environments.
• Hybrid/cloud experience with AWS/Azure/GCP desirable.
• RHCE/LPIC-3 desirable.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Own the enterprise Linux platform roadmap, lifecycle management, and modernization.
• Define and maintain engineering standards and platform build patterns.
• Design scalable Linux solutions for on-prem and cloud.
• Act as technical authority for compute, storage, and core Linux services.
• Lead architecture discussions and design reviews for Linux platforms.
• Drive automation and IaC using Ansible, Terraform, Bash, Python.
• Develop reusable automation frameworks and self-service capabilities.
• Champion DevOps practices across infrastructure teams.
• Own platform availability, performance, and resiliency per SLAs.
• Establish observability standards with Datadog, Dynatrace.
• Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and permanent fixes.
• Embed security-by-design in Linux architecture and operations.
• Maintain DNS, DHCP, LDAP, NTP services and related infra.
• Collaborate with storage, network, DB, app teams on integrated solutions.
• Translate risks into business impact for stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers and raise platform engineering maturity.
