Job summary

Zensar Technologies in Johannesburg is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems using Java 18+ and Spring Boot. You will implement RESTful services, drive platform stability, and mentor teams while coordinating with cross-functional partners in an agile environment.

The role emphasizes ownership, audit compliance, and delivery across Azure Cloud, DevOps pipelines, and modern deployment practices to improve scalability and reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Java 18+, Spring Boot, and object‑oriented design principles.
• Experience with Azure Cloud Services or similar
• Hands‑on experience with Azure DevOps or similar for version control, pipelines, and deployments.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, microservices, and asynchronous programming.
• Working knowledge of SQL
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker containers, and modern deployment strategies.
• Understanding of secure coding practices and API authentication (OAuth2 / OpenID Connect).

Responsibilities

• Release oversight to ensure delivery teams follow agreed processes, controls, and engineering standards.
• Ensure non-production environments are stable, available, and ready to support delivery and testing activities.
• Proactively identify, assess, and address technical risks and issues that may impact upcoming releases.
• Work closely with the engineering team to drive the adoption of engineering standards and best practices.
• Provide hands‑on support to development, production support to resolve blockers.
• Assist in establishing and improving production environments to support reliable and controlled releases.
• Create or enhance common components at the IBOL platform level to improve consistency, reusability, and platform efficiency.
• Drive the implementation and closure of audit findings, ensuring compliance with required controls and governance expectations.
• Overseeing end-to-end release readiness and platform stability, coordinating with cross‑functional stakeholders to resolve issues and drive improvements.
• Develop, maintain, and optimize backend systems using Java 18+, Spring Boot and related frameworks.
• Design and implement RESTful APIs and backend services aligned with DDD and clean architecture.
• Deploy, monitor, and manage applications on Microsoft Azure, leveraging services such as SQL and Azure.
• Automate CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, including build, test, and release workflows.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with engineers, QA, and product teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
• Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Monitor application performance and reliability, implementing proactive improvements and observability practices.
• Stay current with software ecosystem and Azure innovations, applying best practices to improve system scalability and maintainability.
