Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Refrigeration Engineer for Cape Town, Western Cape, to oversee installation, maintenance, and repair of large-scale industrial refrigeration systems in commercial facilities. The role emphasizes reliability, efficiency, and safety in high-demand environments.

You will perform diagnostics, lead preventative maintenance programs, and mentor junior technicians while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience specifically in industrial refrigeration engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of ammonia, HFC, and CO2 refrigeration systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, and commission industrial refrigeration systems and associated components.
• Conduct in-depth diagnostic assessments and perform complex repairs on refrigeration units and systems.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to optimize system performance and minimize failures.
• Troubleshoot issues related to refrigerant leaks, compressor failures, control system malfunctions, and airflow problems.
• Interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals for accurate system understanding and maintenance.
• Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
• Manage and maintain an inventory of spare parts and tools, ensuring availability for maintenance tasks.
• Collaborate with clients and other departments to understand project requirements and provide technical support.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in refrigeration technology and best practices.
• Supervise and train junior technicians on technical procedures and safety protocols.
