Job summary

Sydsen Group (Pty) Ltd in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, is seeking a Senior Industrial Automation Engineer to lead the design, development and delivery of complex automation projects.

You will own projects from system architecture and programming through FAT/SAT, commissioning and final handover, while mentoring engineers and engaging with clients. A BEng or BTech and 7+ years' experience in Siemens PLC/SCADA/DCS are required; travel and rotation standby are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering.
• 7+ years of industrial automation experience and proven project delivery experience.
• Strong Siemens or equivalent PLC, SCADA and DCS experience.

Responsibilities

• Design complete PLC/DCS, SCADA/HMI and industrial automation solutions.
• Engineer control logic and communications.
• Develop PLC and SCADA/HMI systems.
• Lead signal verification and loop testing.
• Conduct FAT/SAT and commissioning.

Senior Industrial Automation Engineer - Durban KwaZulu-Natal

We are recruiting an experienced Senior Industrial Automation Engineer to lead the design, development and delivery of complex automation projects.

The successful candidate will take ownership of projects from system architecture and programming through FAT/SAT, commissioning and final handover, while also supporting technical leadership, client engagement and engineer development.

Key Responsibilities

• Design complete PLC/DCS, SCADA/HMI and industrial automation solutions
• Engineer control logic and communications
• Develop PLC and SCADA/HMI systems
• Integrate field devices, drives and instrumentation
• Lead signal verification and loop testing
• Conduct FAT/SAT and commissioning
• Manage client acceptance and final handover
• Drive software change control and technical governance
• Support process optimisation and energy-efficiency initiatives
• Apply risk, ISO and industry safety requirements
• Support presales, technical scoping and estimating
• Engage with clients and contractors
• Minimum 7+ years’ industrial automation experience
• BEng or BTech in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering
• Strong Siemens or equivalent PLC, SCADA and DCS experience
• Experience with full project lifecycle delivery
• Demonstrated technical leadership or mentorship experience
• Valid driver’s licence
• Willingness to travel and participate in rotational standby
• Strong experience with TIA Portal, Step 7 and/or PCS 7
• Experience with WinCC, Ignition or AVEVA advantageous
• Knowledge of Profinet, Profibus, Modbus and Ethernet-based networks
• Functional safety and SIL experience advantageous
• VSD and soft-starter setup and commissioning experience
• ECSA registration or eligibility advantageous

Package may include a travel allowance, medical aid contribution, standby allowance, petrol card and cellphone in line with company policy.

Salary: R65,000 – R85,000 CTC per month
