Job summary

Techrepo.co.za is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design, deploy, and maintain private and hybrid cloud infrastructures. You will engineer VMware Cloud Foundation environments (ESXi, vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, NSX) and integrate VMware platforms with Microsoft Azure and AWS services.

You will develop and support automation using PowerShell, PowerCLI and Ansible, lead modernization initiatives, and ensure DR readiness while maintaining engineering standards and security controls.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years enterprise infrastructure experience with strong hands-on across hybrid cloud and VMware Cloud Foundation.
• Exposure to Azure, AWS and hybrid cloud integrations is required.
• Formal VMware certifications (VCP/VCAP) are preferred.

About the Role

Design, build, automate and operate private cloud, hybrid cloud and virtualization platforms. The role is cloud-first, with VMware Cloud Foundation as the primary enterprise private cloud platform and exposure to public cloud integration, platform modernization and infrastructure automation.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain private cloud private cloud and hybrid cloud infrastructure solutions.
• Engineer and operate VMware Cloud Foundation environments, including ESXi, vSphere, vCenter, vSAN and NSX.
• Integrate VMware platforms with Microsoft Azure and AWS services.
• Develop and support automation using PowerShell, PowerCLI and Ansible.
• Design and support production and disaster recovery environments.
• Lead infrastructure refresh, modernization, migration, firmware and patching initiatives.
• Implement and support Commvault Backup solutions.
• Manage enterprise server, storage and virtualization platforms across Dell, HPE and related technologies.
• Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis and major incident resolution.
• Maintain engineering standards, documentation, security and compliance controls.
• Participate in the evaluation and adoption of emerging virtualization and cloud platforms.
• Perform security hardening, monitoring, patching, and compliance management.
• Troubleshoot complex cloud, storage, network, and virtualization issues.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams for architecture and projects.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and runbooks.
• Minimum of 8 years enterprise infrastructure experience, with strong hands‑on capability across hybrid cloud, VMware Cloud Foundation, enterprise hardware, storage and data centre engineering.
• Cloud & Hybrid Cloud : Microsoft Azure; Amazon Web Services (AWS); hybrid cloud integrations; cloud infrastructure operations; cloud migration and repatriation initiatives.
• VMware Cloud Platform: VMware ESXi 8.x and 9.x; vSphere; VMware Cloud Foundation; stretched clusters; vSAN; NSX; SDDC; VDC; vRealize Automation; vRealize Operations; vCloud Director
• Enterprise Infrastructure: HPE & Cisco Enclosure / Chassis, DL Series Gen11+, Dell VxRail and VMware Ready Nodes; Dell PowerEdge R Series and other hardware platforms.
• Storage Platforms: Hitachi, Dell EMC VMAX/VNX, HPE Storage, NetApp and Pure Storage; SAN, NAS, NFS, SMB/CIFS, Fibre Channel and iSCSI.
• Data Centre Engineering: Rack and stack installations; hardware lifecycle management; firmware and patching upgrades; iLO and iDRAC administration; troubleshooting and break-fix support.

Requirements

• Mandatory Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering. VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP).

• Transitional Platforms: OpenShift Virtualization, Nutanix AHV, Huawei Cloud Stack, Azure Local

• Exposure to enterprise-scale VMware Cloud Foundation and hybrid cloud environments.
• Hands‑on experience with Azure, AWS and cloud‑adjacent infrastructure services.
