Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC for Pretoria, Gauteng. This role focuses on the design, development, and optimization of HVAC systems for commercial and industrial projects.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with HVAC focus, 7+ years of experience, and strong skills in Revit MEP, AutoCAD, HAP, and Trace 700; professional registration (Pr. Eng/Pr. Tech. Eng) is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with HVAC specialization.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant HVAC design/engineering experience.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software (Revit MEP, AutoCAD, HAP, Trace 700) and related tools.
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, psychrometrics, and HVAC components.
• Familiarity with energy efficiency standards (LEED, Green Star) and green building principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Pr. Eng or Pr. Tech. Eng registration with ECSA is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of HVAC systems for large-scale commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.
• Develop system layouts, schematics, and specifications meeting codes/standards (SANS, ASHRAE).
• Perform load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping design using specialized software.
• Conduct energy modeling to optimize system efficiency and minimize environmental impact.
• Collaborate with architects and electrical engineers to integrate HVAC into building design.
• Oversee shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs during construction.
• Conduct site visits to ensure proper installation and commissioning of HVAC systems.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on HVAC challenges.
