Job summary

Amazon Data Services South Africa (Pty) Ltd is seeking a Data Center HV/MV Specialist Engineer to oversee high and medium voltage infrastructure, ensure peak efficiency, and lead maintenance and emergency response efforts within the data center region. The role interacts with Facility Managers, EOTs, and vendors to maintain critical electrical systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience carrying new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
• Experience in project management.
• HV and MV switching accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of medium and high voltage infrastructure.
• Operate independently with limited direct management.
• Assist in the design and build out of new MV and HV facility infrastructure.
• Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data center region and work OT hours as needed to support site stability.
• Perform root cause analysis of MV/HV equipment failures.
• Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
• Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and assisting in recruiting efforts for the same.
• Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff.
• Utilize internal Change Management Systems to manage building workflows.
• MV/HV Isolation to facilitate MV/HV maintenance.
• Provide metric availability reporting on a weekly basis.
• Support all regions in the MEA.
• Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
