Job summary

Amazon AWS Data Centers in Cape Town seeks a Data Center Engineering Operations leader to supervise a team of facility managers and chief engineers. You will uphold safety standards and drive reliability across the electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including UPS, generators, chillers, and HVAC systems.

You will coordinate with multiple departments and vendors to maintain high uptime in a mission‑critical environment, fostering continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience carrying new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
• Experience in MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems.
• Experience with power management and power monitoring systems.

Responsibilities

• Safety: Set and maintain the highest standard for safety and actively promote a world‑class safety culture.
• Lead a team of facility professionals; hire, manage and coach a team of DC facility management staff.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Finance, Safety, HR, Recruiting.
• Effectively manage vendors and vendor contracting negotiations.
• Manage mission‑critical operations with electrical and mechanical equipment including UPSs, Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, ATSs, Diesel Generators, Chillers, HVAC, Exhaust Fans, VFDs, and Transformers.
• Prepare for and lead the organization through the facility infrastructure incident management plan, including event planning, drill coordination, escalation, incident mitigation, and post‑event reporting.
