Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior HSE Manager to oversee health, safety and environmental initiatives across Gauteng projects, with a focus on large-scale energy infrastructure from construction to operation.

The role requires a Diploma/Degree in OHS or related field, 8+ years of HSE leadership, and hands-on expertise in risk management, incident investigations and contractor HSE oversight. Willingness to travel and a valid driver’s license are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive experience in HSE management on large-scale construction or industrial projects, preferably in energy.
• In-depth knowledge of SA HSE legislation (OHS Act, NEMA) and ISO 14001/45001 standards.
• Proven experience in risk assessment, hazard identification and control measures.
• Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
• Experience in managing contractor HSE performance.
• Proficiency in developing and delivering HSE training.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage complex situations.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage HSE policies and systems for energy projects.
• Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure regulatory and company compliance.
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver HSE training for site personnel, contractors, and management.
• Oversee environmental monitoring, permitting, and compliance activities.
• Develop and manage emergency response plans and procedures.
• Engage with regulatory bodies, clients, and other stakeholders on HSE matters.
• Promote a strong safety culture through leadership and proactive engagement.
• Prepare regular HSE performance reports for senior management and clients.
• Manage the HSE budget and resources effectively.
