About the Role

Our client, a leading architectural firm renowned for its specialization in healthcare facilities, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Healthcare Architect to join their team in Stellenbosch, Western Cape . This role is central to the design and planning of complex medical environments, including hospitals, clinics, and specialized medical centers. You will lead design teams, ensuring that projects meet stringent healthcare standards, operational efficiencies, and patient-centered design principles. The position requires a deep understanding of healthcare regulations, medical workflows, and the integration of advanced medical technologies. Key Responsibilities

Lead the architectural design and planning of healthcare facilities, from conceptualization to construction administration. Develop functional and technically sophisticated designs that adhere to healthcare standards and best practices. Collaborate closely with healthcare clients, medical professionals, engineers, and regulatory bodies. Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare building codes, accessibility standards (e.g., SANS 10400-XA), and infection control guidelines. Prepare detailed architectural drawings, specifications, and project documentation for healthcare projects. Manage design teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure project delivery on time and within budget. Conduct feasibility studies and site analyses for new healthcare developments and renovations. Stay abreast of the latest trends in healthcare design, medical technology, and sustainable building practices for healthcare facilities. Mentor junior architects and contribute to the firm’s expertise in healthcare architecture. Participate in client presentations and stakeholder engagement meetings.

Requirements

Registered Professional Architect with SACAP. A minimum of 10 years of architectural experience, with a significant specialization in healthcare projects. Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex hospital, clinic, or medical facility projects. In-depth knowledge of healthcare planning principles, medical equipment coordination, and infection control design. Proficiency in architectural software, particularly Revit for Building Information Modeling (BIM) in healthcare environments. Familiarity with South African healthcare regulations and standards. Strong project management, leadership, and client liaison skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. A strong portfolio showcasing high-quality healthcare architectural work is essential. Experience with Evidence-Based Design (EBD) principles is highly desirable.
