Placements24 seeks a Senior Geothermal Energy Systems Specialist in Centurion, Gauteng, SA to lead the design, implementation, and operation of advanced geothermal systems. You will assess sites, optimize power plants, and drive sustainable resource use within a regulated environment.

The role requires 10+ years in geothermal exploration and development, expertise in ORC/flash steam, and strong technical leadership for cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Geothermal Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Geology, Earth Sciences, or related discipline.
• 10+ years of specialized geothermal experience in resource exploration and project management.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamic cycles (Rankine, ORC).
• Experience with geological modeling software and reservoir simulation tools.
• Experience with drilling operations, well completion, and production optimization.
• Knowledge of ORC or flash steam plant design and operations.
• Proven track record managing complex energy projects from start to finish.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.
• Familiarity with SA geothermal regulations and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead geological and engineering assessment of geothermal sites.
• Design and optimize geothermal power plant systems (drilling, reservoir management, heat extraction).
• Oversee installation, commissioning, and operations of geothermal projects.
• Conduct feasibility studies, economics, and risk assessments.
• Develop strategies for sustainable reservoir management and resource use.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and permits requirements.
• Collaborate with internal teams, agencies, and partners on geothermal initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership on emerging geothermal technologies.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and performance analyses.
• Mentor junior engineers and geoscientists.
