Our client, a leading international geoconsulting firm, is looking for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their fully remote team. This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated professional to contribute to significant infrastructure and mining projects across Africa without the need for relocation. You will be responsible for overseeing and interpreting geotechnical investigations, providing expert advice on foundation design, slope stability, and earthworks from a remote perspective. This role demands exceptional technical judgment, strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with site teams and clients digitally, and the ability to manage complex projects autonomously. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the safety and viability of projects through rigorous geotechnical analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Provide expert geotechnical advice and design recommendations for diverse projects (e.g., large-scale infrastructure, mining, energy) from a remote setting. Oversee and interpret geotechnical site investigation programs, including reviewing field data and laboratory test results. Conduct advanced numerical modelling and analysis for complex geotechnical challenges such as deep excavations, dams, and tunnels. Prepare high-quality geotechnical reports, proposals, and technical specifications. Review and approve geotechnical designs and calculations performed by other team members. Liaise effectively with clients, project managers, site teams, and other consultants via digital platforms. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and geologists within the remote team structure. Ensure compliance with international and South African geotechnical standards and best practices. Contribute to business development activities, including proposal preparation and client presentations. Stay abreast of new technologies and methodologies in geotechnical engineering.

Requirements

A Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field from a recognized university. Professional registration (Pr Eng) with ECSA or equivalent international recognition. A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant portion involving complex projects and leadership roles. Demonstrated expertise in advanced geotechnical analysis and numerical modeling (e.g., finite element analysis). Proven experience in managing large-scale geotechnical investigation programs and projects remotely. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly in a remote environment. Proficiency in industry-standard geotechnical software packages. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet stringent deadlines. Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
