About the Role

Our client, a well-established engineering consultancy with a strong presence in the mining and infrastructure sectors, is looking for a seasoned Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in Vereeniging, Gauteng . This role is crucial for providing expert geotechnical analysis and design services for a range of challenging projects, including mine infrastructure, large-scale earthworks, and deep foundation systems. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to delivering technically sound and cost-effective solutions. You will be responsible for managing projects, mentoring junior staff, and liaising with clients to ensure successful project outcomes. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the geotechnical investigation and design for mining infrastructure, including tailings dams, waste rock dumps, and open-pit slope stability.
• Perform detailed analysis of soil and rock mechanics for foundations of heavy industrial structures and civil infrastructure.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical investigation reports, design documents, and technical specifications.
• Manage project teams, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Provide technical supervision and mentorship to junior geotechnical engineers and technicians.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth project execution.
• Conduct site inspections and monitoring to assess performance and address any geotechnical issues.
• Utilize advanced geotechnical software for numerical modeling and analysis.
• Contribute to business development activities, including proposal writing and client relationship management.
• Ensure compliance with relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and industry best practices.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical specialization.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA.
• A minimum of 8 years of comprehensive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant focus on mining and large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated expertise in slope stability analysis, foundation design, and numerical modeling software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio).
• Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics principles and their application in practice.
• Excellent report writing, presentation, and communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage projects and lead technical teams effectively.
• Experience in site investigation planning and supervision.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to undertake site visits within the Vereeniging region and other project locations.
