Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Klerksdorp office to lead geotechnical investigations and advanced stability analyses for open-pit and underground mining projects. You will design ground support, monitor ground control, and manage risk assessments while mentoring junior staff and coordinating with engineers, geologists, and constructors.

The role requires a Master's degree in Geotechnical/Civil Engineering with a Geotechnics focus and at least 7 years of mining

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement monitoring programs for geotechnical parameters.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, design documents, and risk assessments.
• Provide expert advice on ground control issues and emergency response planning.
• Liaise with mining engineers, geologists, and construction teams to integrate geotechnical designs.
• Mentor and guide junior geotechnical engineers and technicians.
• Ensure compliance with relevant South African mining regulations and international best practices.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering (with a specialization in Geotechnics), or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant focus on the mining industry.
• Proven experience in slope stability analysis (limit equilibrium, finite element methods) and underground excavation design.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software such as Rocscience suite (Slide, Examine, Dips), FLAC, or similar.
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics and soil mechanics principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in report writing and client presentations.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) is highly desirable.
