Qualifications

About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Lead Geoscientist to spearhead exploration activities in the George area. This senior position plays a critical role in identifying and evaluating potential new energy resource prospects through advanced geological and geophysical analysis. You will lead a team of geoscientists, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with exploration management to define exploration strategies and execute seismic surveys, well planning, and prospect risking. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, a strategic mindset, and a passion for uncovering new energy frontiers within the Western Cape.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the geological and geophysical interpretation of seismic data to identify and delineate potential hydrocarbon or mineral prospects.
• Develop and implement integrated exploration strategies and play concepts.
• Oversee and perform well log analysis, core analysis, and biostratigraphy studies.
• Conduct basin analysis and prospect risk assessment to support exploration portfolio management.
• Mentor and guide junior geoscientists and geophysicists in the team.
• Collaborate with reservoir and production engineers on field development planning.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geology, Geophysics, or a related Earth Science discipline.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in oil and gas exploration, with a strong focus on seismic interpretation and prospect generation.
• Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to manage technical teams.
• Proficiency in interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite) and understanding of geological modeling techniques.
• In-depth knowledge of regional geology and basin analysis.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
